Syracuse Welcomes Actor and Activist Khalil Kain for “Stop the Violence” Panel Discussion

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner will host a panel discussion on gun violence in the Syracuse community on Thursday, March 21, 2013. “Stop the Violence: A Discussion on Guns in our Community” is presented by Mayor Miner in collaboration with Mothers Against Gun Violence, the Trauma Response Team, and SEIU 1199. The event will feature actor and activist Khalil Kain, as well as Common Councilor Helen Hudson, Pastor Daren Jaime of the People’s African Methodist Episcopal Church, and Syracuse anti-violence community activists and law enforcement officials.

Khalil Kain is best known for the character “Darnell Wilkes” in the television series “Girlfriends” and as Raheem in the movie “Juice” – a film following four inner-city youths as their innocent misbehavior grows into more serious gun violence. Kain has long been an anti-violence advocate, and joins Thursday’s panel discussion at Mayor Miner’s special request.

Join Mayor Miner, Khalil Kain and a strong network of community activists on Thursday, March 21st at the Landmark Theatre (362 South Salina Street). The panel discussion begins at 3:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available at the Washington Street parking garage (340 West Washington Street).

We hope you’ll join in the honest discussion. Together, we can eradicate gun violence from our community!
